Senior Analyst, Global Trade Compliance

POSITION SUMMARY:

The Global Trade Senior Analyst will support the company’s global trade compliance program by ensuring adherence to all applicable import, export, and sanctions regulations. This role partners with cross-functional teams, customs brokers, and government agencies to manage the day-to-day operations of the trade compliance team, resolve trade-related issues, and implement process improvements. The Senior Analyst will play a key role in mitigating risk, maintaining compliance, and enabling efficient international trade activities.

This role will report directly to the Global Trade Compliance Director. Compensation package is commensurate with experience and Balchem offers generous benefits which include medical, dental, vision, 401K with company match and a hybrid work model.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Support global trade compliance with import and export operations, product classification, country of origin and FTA determinations and restricted party/sanctions screenings.
  • Effectively work cross-functionally to support the delivery and execution of a standardized trade compliance program.
  • Resolve various trade-related situations to ensure a seamless flow of goods across international borders.
  • Ability to draft and manage SOPs, and support internal audits, as needed
  • Ability to communicate at various levels and across multiple functions in the company.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

A) Technical knowledge

  • Understanding of import and export regulations, including U.S. Customs (CBP), EAR, ITAR, OFAC, and applicable international regulations.
  • Proficiency in tariff classification (HTS/ECCN), customs valuation, country of origin, and free trade agreement rules of origin.
  • Experience performing restricted party screenings and embargo/sanctions checks
  • Familiarity with export licensing requirements
  • Solid understanding of supply chain, logistics, and documentation requirements for international shipments.

B) Operational Capabilities

  • Manage the daily import and export compliance activities, including but not limited to product classification (HTS, ECCN), recordkeeping, valuation, customs broker management, and license determination.
  • Execute corrective actions as needed and support monitoring activities.
  • Assist with the development, implementation and maintenance of standard operating procedures and work instructions.
  • Responsible for the accuracy and maintenance of the global trade database.
  • Prepare and maintain compliance documentation, records, and internal files in line with internal policies and regulatory requirements.
  • Contribute to continuous process improvement initiatives to enhance compliance and operational efficiency.
  • Experience working closely with customs brokers, freight forwarders, and government agencies.
  • Partner with logistics, supply chain, and procurement teams to ensure shipments move efficiently and in compliance with trade laws.
  • Support the delivery and execution of a standardized trade compliance program under the direction of the Global Trade Compliance Director.
  • Support Global Trade Director and internal business partners with special projects, as needed.

C) Communication Skills & Abilities

  • Manage positive relationships with service providers, customers and suppliers, and internal stakeholders.
  • Demonstrates integrity and accountability in decision-making.
  • Strong communication and influence skills to work with cross-functional teams (supply chain, legal, sales, procurement, engineering).
  • Works across functions to identify gaps, and prioritize and execute trade policy.
  • Operates with the highest levels of integrity, maintaining a commitment to Balchem’s social, ethical and organization values.

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelor’s degree; advanced degree or professional certification (e.g., CCS, CES, LCB) preferred.
  • Minimum of 5+ years of experience in global trade compliance, import/export operations, or international logistics within multinational corporations.
  • Understanding of U.S. and international trade regulations (e.g., EAR, ITAR, OFAC, CBP requirements, EU regulations).
  • Demonstrated experience with product classification, country of origin determination, free trade agreements, and implementing efficiencies
  • Experience with developing and implementing SOPs and work instructions
  • Demonstrated ability to work independently, assume increased responsibilities, and take initiative in a fast paced, high energy, global environment.
  • Detail oriented process improver with strong problem solving and analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills with the ability to work cross-functionally and influence stakeholders.
  • Experience with importing and exporting food or pharmaceuticals a plus
