Process Engineer - Marano, Italy

Location: Marano Ticino


Within the technical department the engineer takes care of the conceptual phase of the project that leads to the scoping and cost estimate of a project leading to a capital project application. In the execution phase the process engineer prepares the equipment and instrument specifications, the PIDís and participates in the team for the Safety Assessment of the new project (HAZOP etc.). The process engineer is responsible for the transfer of the project scope and objectives to the other disciplines in the team of the technical department that participate in the realization of the project from concept to mechanical complete. The process engineer leads commissioning of newly implemented projects and helps with the start-up.

Beyond project work the engineer supports other functions with process knowledge and understanding of the technological processes through troubleshooting support to the production department, energy efficiency analysis according to ISO 50001application of Lean and SPC-techniques in specific improvement projects as support to production, maintenance (mechanical integrity) and quality.

The individual in this role will place a priority on safety and compliance with all applicable requirements and provide leadership for Process Safety Management and food safety.


  • Follows and enforces all safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards. Works to advance and promote the safety culture of the site.
  • Participate in selected capital expenditure projects on the Marano Site including design, installation, safety, cost, leads commissioning and helps coordinate startups.
  • Daily responsibilities include implementation, follow up and support of Process Technology related topics. Participate to technical design and engineering implementation of project work in compliance with SGS-SEVESO, environmental, worker safety , hygiene (cGMP) and ISO procedures.
  • When necessary will assist with the follow-up and upgrading of the plantís DCS/PLC control system.
  • Assists with Process Safety Management (post-SEVESO) compliance through leadership and participation in activities required.
  • Coordinates with other site departments, particularly with Production, as well as with off site departments (R&D, Business groups) to facilitate projects to meet their scope and timelines.
  • When necessary. formulates and supervises civil mechanical, electrical and environmental process cost estimates to determine the feasibility of proposed projects and to establish structural, mechanical, electrical, operational or other requirements to design, develop, and install construction or manufacturing projects.
  • Maintains relationships with outside vendors, particularly those that supply services and labor for capital project assignments.
  • When necessary has supervisory responsibility of outside contractors and consultants including evaluation of work completed, required conformance to contractor safety policies, safety performance, and security of confidential information.
  • Develops new and innovative solutions to process improvement opportunities that accomplish business objectives including improving safety, quality, or efficiency.
  • When necessary provides leadership on selected projects and submits and reviews to the Technical Manager and other managers for ultimate decisions including approvals for capital expenditures.
  • Performs other related duties.


Education and Experience:

University degree in Chemical Engineering or Mechanical Engineering  

A minimum of 3 years experience in the process industry. 


Work is partially sedentary but requires climbing, standing, walking, balance and coordination when reviewing equipment operation on site. Travel is required on specific assignments.
