QC Chemist I

Department: Quality Control - Roy
Location: Roy, UT

General Purpose of Position: Perform day-to-day chemical and physical analysis of raw materials, intermediate products and final product to ensure conformity to standards and specifications in accordance to current Good Laboratory Practices (cGLP)/current Good Manufacturing Practices (GMP), and Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) policies and requirements.   


Essential responsibilities and authority include but are not limited to the following:

w  Evaluates the physical, chemical, and organoleptic properties of raw materials, in-process samples and finished goods in accordance with laboratory test methods, compendia methods and SOPs. 

w  Follows all relevant Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) and policies set forth by Albion/Balchem

w  Maintains the cleanliness of the lab as well as other routine laboratory tasks

w  Assist with method validations of laboratory tests

w  Perform data verification, interpretation and analysis

w  Review the work of laboratory personnel

w  Performs maintenance, verification, calibrations and monitoring of laboratory instruments

w  Provide back-up coverage for other lab positions.

w  Perform mathematical and statistical analyses of results


Minimum Job Requirements:


w  Bachelor’s degree in Chemistry or closely related field

w  0-2 years’ experience in an analytical laboratory



w  Possess knowledge of analytical chemistry principles and procedures

w  Knowledgeable in Microsoft Office suite of products (especially Excel, Access and Word).

w  Experience with the following analytical instruments a plus:  pH Meter, FT-IR, Moisture Analyzers, Colorimeter, Balances, Particle Size Distribution Analyzer, and Density Analyzer. 


Working Conditions:  Laboratory environment which may include exposure to hazards such as: chemicals, acid fumes, caustic and toxic substances and high temperatures.
