Supervisor 2nd Shift Slate Hill

Department: Operations - Slate Hill
Location: Slate Hill, NY

SHIFT SUPERVISOR

2nd Shift 3PM-11:30PM

Principal Purpose: Manages and provides leadership supervision on all activities of a team (shift) of Encapsulates production personnel. Actively ensures that production activities are carried out in the safest, consistent quality meeting specifications, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective manner. Identifies potential problem areas and offers recommendations to the Plant Manager for increases in efficiency and opportunities for cost reduction.

Essential Functions:

  •  Has primary responsibility for ensuring safe, environmentally responsible, and cost-effective production of material in the Encapsulates plant.
  •         Ensures the safety of personnel and property by ensuring that appropriate PPE is worn and that all safety procedures are followed. Ensures that unsafe acts or conditions are not permitted, and that all safety equipment is operational. Detects and investigates any potential hazard and recommends and / or takes immediate corrective actions.
  •         Assigns and monitors shift personnel to efficiently accomplish production requirements. Responsible for training as well as documentation of training for production personnel.
  •         Responsible for controlling and minimizing production costs. Takes ownership in looking for and resolving cost reduction opportunities. Works closely with plant management and production personnel in generating cost reduction opportunities. Takes immediate action when a cost reduction opportunity is found.
  •         Responsible for ensuring optimal utilization of production labor and machinery. Ensures that production efficiency is maintained throughout the entire shift and through shift changes. Actively works to maximize operational efficiency and manage overtime costs to stated objectives.
  •         Responsible for optimizing quality and yield of products. Monitors quality and yield of material produced and implements changes and / or seeks assistance when issues arise. Ensures that personnel follow standard operating procedures and proper practices in the production of material, and actively participates in making positive changes to the operating procedures when necessary.
  •         Responsible for maintaining daily plant cleanliness to GMP and SQF standards.
  •         Conducts root cause(s) incident investigations and helps determine and implement necessary corrective actions.
  •         Performs and / or participates in supervisory duties such as: interviewing and selecting personnel, training and development, motivation, goal setting, evaluation, corrective actions.
  •         Works with Process / Project Engineer, QC, and R&D to assist in establishing the process conditions when new or modified Encap processes are brought into production.
  •         Works with Maintenance Department to ensure a minimum level of equipment downtime and control of maintenance costs.
  •         Documents shift activity and generate reports as directed by the plant manager.
  •         Follows and enforces all safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards. Works to advance and promote the safety culture of the site.
  •         Able to perform duties of Encapsulates Advanced Operator as necessary.
  •         Responsible for food safety.
  •         Responsible for notifying supervisor of any incident affecting food safety.
  •         Serves as back up to Production Scheduler.
  •         Must be proficient in all requirements of the Skill Block Qualification associated with position.

Qualifications: Minimum High School level education or equivalency required. Minimum 3-5 years manufacturing experience w/supervisory responsibilities.

  • Ability to perform the functions of an Encapsulates Advanced Operator, or a demonstrated knowledge of manufacturing in a similar processing environment.

Physical Activities:

Physical activity includes climbing, balancing, bending, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, lifting (up to 55 lbs.), hearing, talking, repetitive motion, and moving objects up to 300 lbs.

  Visual Acuity:

Ability to distinguish colors and licensed to operate a forklift

 Environmental Condition:

Works inside most of the time, periodically with temperatures and noise above ambient levels, proximity to moving mechanical parts, potential exposure to chemicals which are constantly monitored, and wears a respirator when manufacturing specified products.
