Process Control Engineer

Department: Operations - Bridgeton
Location: Bridgeton, MO


The Process Control Engineer is responsible for maintaining the on-site PLC system and network. This includes gathering, design, configuration, integration and implementation of process control solutions for the plant production processes including batch software, PLC / DCS systems, HMI packages, SCADA systems, Visual Basic and PC networking technology. The Process Control Engineer is responsible for all of the following project phases: Requirements, documentation, detailed design generation, implementation, system integration, testing and on-site startup. Assists in maintaining compliance in Environmental, Safety and Health and that all functions are accomplished safely, timely, economically and in compliance with GMP, SQF and other regulatory requirements. 




  1. Follows and enforces all safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards. Works to advance and promote the safety culture of the site.
  2. For assigned projects, manages all capital expenditures including design, installation, safety, cost, and helps coordinate startups of assigned. Managing responsibility includes overall Project and Construction management activities.
  3. Daily responsibilities include solutions implementation and support of the daily production control systems. Plans and coordinates technical design and engineering implementation of control project work in compliance with, SQF, and GMP procedures. Identifies the control technologies to be used for new applications and extensions of current architectures.
  4. Responsible for maintaining and upgrading of the plant’s PLC control system and network.
  5. Leads and/or participates on a variety of teams including capital projects, plant process efficiency/improvement teams, and supports plant trials.
  6. Generates improvement ideas around safety, quality, yield, cost, etc.
  7. Coordinates with other plant departments, particularly with Production, as well as with off site departments (R&D, Business groups) to facilitate process control projects and support.
  8. When necessary has supervisory responsibility of outside contractors and consultants including evaluation of work completed, required conformance to contractor safety policies, safety performance, and security of confidential information.
  9. When necessary formulates and supervises civil mechanical, electrical and environmental process studies to determine the feasibility of proposed projects and to establish structural, mechanical, electrical, operational or other requirements to design, develop, and install construction or manufacturing projects.
  10. Prepares and submits the timely delivery of activity and monthly reports to keep the Plant Manager and others informed about the status of engineering assignments.
  11. Assists or trains process control employees at other locations



 Education and Experience:

BS degree in electrical engineering or related field.

 A minimum of 5 years’ experience including project management and scheduling, plant operations, equipment and buildings, maintenance process control equipment and theory.



  1. Some lifting and carrying of equipment is required up to 40 pounds.
  2. Travel between locations is often required.
