Accounting Supervisor

Balchem Italia is based in Marano Ticino (NO), Italy. It’s the indirect wholly owned subsidiary of Balchem Corporation and active into 3 business segments: Animal Nutrition & Health, Human Nutrition & Health and Industrial Products. Balchem Italia supplies quality products into Europe and throughout the world to a variety of end-use markets.

Position Summary:

Reporting to the Finance & Accounting Leader for Balchem Italia, the Accounting Supervisor will oversee the general ledger, statutory and fiscal accounting for the Balchem European legal entities, including General Ledger, Accounts Payable and Accounts Receivable. Responsibilities include overseeing, reviewing and executing (as needed) all accounting entries according to company policies, reporting and ensuring controls are followed and in full compliance with SOX requirements.  This role interacts closely with the Assistant Controller responsible for Balchem Consolidations, and the Italian Cost Accountant and Financial Planning & Reporting Analyst and provide support and assistance in the preparation of both internal and external financial statements and other financial information.

Essential Responsibilities:             

Financial Reporting

  • Assists in the preparation of all monthly financial reports (income and departmental statements) for management review
  • Coordinates activities with Financial Planning & Reporting in accordance to deadlines
  • Coordinates and supervise activities of A/R, AP and general ledger

General Ledger

  • Prepares and enter journal entries, as required
  • Reviews journal entries for direct reports
  • Analyzes and reconcile general ledger account balances
  • Prepares expense account analysis as needed

Statutory and Fiscal 

  • Ensures compliance with statutory and fiscal requirements in conjunction with external accounting firms
  • Prepares VAT registers for all entities, Italian and European
  • Prepares Statutory Financial Statements for Italian and European-based entities


  • Participates in the annual budget process, with regards to any required balance sheet, tax, VAT or other statutory assumptions

Sarbanes Oxley Compliance

  • Full involvement in maintaining the Company’s Sarbanes Oxley compliance requirements under the direction of the Finance and Accounting Leader
  • Prepares and maintain documented procedures
  • Interacts with and supply information to internal and external auditors


  • Special projects as requested by management
  • Supplies external audit team with information and analysis for annual audits and quarterly reviews as required

  • B.S. in Accounting;  Knowledge of financial reporting (ITA and US GAAP) and functions
  • At least 5 years’ accounting experience including General Ledger, Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable   
  • Previous supervisory experience
  • Requires strong oral and written communications skills, computer literacy and professional presentation
  • Fluent in English, both written and orally
  • Strong analytical skills
  • Solid knowledge of accounting principles, practices, and financial reporting
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office Suite (Outlook, Word, Excel, and PowerPoint)
  • Proficient with ERP and financial accounting software, eg SAP
  • Flexibility to travel domestically as needed
  • Work requires willingness to work a flexible schedule when necessary
