POSITION SUMMARY:
The Formulation Scientist will join the R&D Group in Ogden, UT, reporting to the Director of R&D. The role focuses on application development and technical support, primarily for the pharmaceutical and nutraceutical markets. Balchem’s products include various choline salts, methylsulfonylmethane (MSM), chelated minerals, and more. These products serve the food, feed, nutraceutical, personal care, and pharmaceutical markets, utilizing technologies such as spray drying, agglomeration, granulation, distillation, crystallization, microencapsulation, milling, and blending. Common applications include tablets, capsules, powders, gummies, soft gels, and liquids.
The Formulation Scientist applies formulation science knowledge to oral solid dosage forms, collaborating with marketing, sales, manufacturing, supply chain, quality, analytical labs, and other R&D groups. Responsibilities include generating scientific data across lab, pilot plant, and commercial scales, becoming an in-house expert on customer usage of Balchem products. The role involves project management, report writing, and data presentation, balancing customer-facing and laboratory-focused tasks. Travel to customer locations for visits and scale-up trials is required. The working environment spans office, laboratory, pilot production, and manufacturing settings, with occasional domestic and international travel.
