Operations Team Lead

POSITION SUMMARY:

Under the direction of the Plant Manager, performs Encapsulates Department activities such as orientation, training and supervision of Process Technicians, safe equipment operation and troubleshooting, and optimum allocation of Company resources. Communicates and coordinates with internal departments such as Quality Control, Research Development, and Shipping and Receiving.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

  • Assists in ensuring safety policies and procedures are followed including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards
  • Performs all Advanced Process Technician duties proficiently and without supervision
  • Capable of operating all production equipment
  • Operates equipment, conducts minor repairs and adjustments, checks settings, ensures safety devices are in place, inspects for cleanliness
  • Instructs and trains Process Technicians in the operation of equipment and related standard operating procedures (SOPs)
  • Reviews batch sheets and related paperwork prior to, during, and after campaigns of products as necessary to: 1) ensure accuracy and completeness, and 2) determine improvements to increase product quality, yield, and throughput
  • Assists in development of run conditions for new and existing products, including equipment settings and process modifications
  • Troubleshoots processes, identifies, defines, and corrects both mechanical and process problems and consults with other departments as needed
  • Performs all necessary computer functions to maintain efficient team operations
  • Communicates activities to the Plant Manager
  • Keeps current of all production related changes
  • Manages the activities of the shift in the absence of, or as designated by the Plant Manager
  • Follows all safety policies and procedures including use of safety equipment (PPE) and equipment safeguards
  • Responsible for feed safety
  • Responsible for notifying supervisor of any incident affecting feed safety
  • Must be proficient in all requirements of the Operators Qualification associated with position

REQUIREMENTS:

  • High School certificate or equivalent
  • Proficiency in all Process Technician duties, or ability and desire to become proficient in all Technician duties in an expedited fashion
  • Understands Balchem’s standard operating procedures and document control systems
  • Knowledge of Encapsulates machine operation, process equipment operations, troubleshooting, and in-process mechanical repairs
  • Ability to check batch results and paperwork for quality and accuracy
  • Accomplished manufacturer of Encap product line
  • Knowledge of advanced troubleshooting methods
  • Effective inter-personal and communication skills; ability to effectively interact with supervision, peers, and non-production department personnel
  • Ability to conduct effective on-the-job and classroom training
  • Demonstrated initiative, problem solving and decision-making skills
  • Demonstrated supervisory & managerial abilities
  • Demonstrated knowledge of C/S system and common applications software (Word, Excel, etc.)
  • Willingness to work shift schedules and overtime

WORKING CONDITIONS:

  • Continuous physical activity through the workday such as climbing, balancing, stooping, reaching, standing, walking, pushing, pulling, lifting, hearing, talking, repetitive motion and moving objects weighing up to 100 lbs.
  • Ability to distinguish colors and operate a forklift
  • Works inside most of the time, periodically with temperature above 100 degrees, noise above ambient levels, proximity to moving mechanical parts, potential exposure to chemicals which is constantly monitored and wears respirator when manufacturing specified products.
